PURPOSE:To select a rule in consideration of results of matching to the other rules by storing the frequency in matching success of a fact used for matching. CONSTITUTION:The matching processing between rules in a knowledge base 100 and facts in a working memory 101 is performed, and matching results and the frequency in matching success of each fact are stored in a contention set 102. Rules having higher priority levels out of rules in the contention set are gathered. The number of gathered rules is checked. When the number is not one, rules are selected with the frequency in matching success as one evaluation index, and selected rules are executed by an inference mechanism 103 thereafter; but when it is one, the selected rule is immediately executed by the mechanism 103.
