PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an isomerization catalyst and to provide a method for isomerization capable of obtaining p-xylene and converting ethylbenzene to hydrocarbons at high efficiency with little xylene loss attributed to side reactions and low in hydrogen consumption, in isomerization reactions of 8C aromatic hydrocarbon raw materials containing ethylbenzene and xylenes. ;SOLUTION: This isomerization catalyst preferably comprises active metal components, for example, group VIII metal components in a periodic table, deposited on a binder-less crystalline aluminosilicate molded body having a fine pore diameter of 5-6 Å and containing an acid type crystalline aluminosilicate having an acid amount of 0.001-0.2 mmol/g measured as ammonia desorption amount by the ammonia heating desorption method. This isomerization method is used for isomerization of 8C aromatic hydrocarbons containing ethylbenzene and xylenes by using the catalyst.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
