PURPOSE: To provide a conversion catalyst for ethylbenzene containing xylenes and a process for using the catalyst, which is able to hydrogenate and dealkylate ethylbenzene containing xylenes into benzene and ethane at a high level and reduce the loss of xylene when ortho-xylene and meta-xylene are isomerized into para-xylene. CONSTITUTION: To convert ethylbenzene containing xylenes, the ethylbenzene-containing xylenes makes contact with a conversion catalyst for ethylbenzene-containing xylenes in the presence of hydrogen. In the conversion catalyst, an X-ray diffraction intensity ratio of the crystal lattice plane spacing d-value of 0.1960.002 nm assigned to alumina to the crystal lattice plane spacing d-value of 0.3860.008 nm assigned to MFI-type zeolite is in a range from 100:7 to 100:35.
