PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable reducing bubbles of easily foaming liquid, particularly foaming of coating materials surely and at a low cost by arranging linear bodies each provided with a rotating mechanism or reciprocating mechanism above the surface of the liquid so that they can come into contact with bubbles on the surface of the liquid. ;SOLUTION: When a defoaming device is installed above the surface of the liquid in a circulating tank 1 of a coating device, a pedestal 21 is installed above the circulating tank 1, a motor 22 is fitted to this pedestal 21, plural linear bodies 24 are fitted to the lower end of a rotating shaft 23 rotated around a vertical axis by driving the motor 22, and the lower ends of the linear bodies 24 are positioned above the surface of the liquid. When a coating material 2 is returned to the circulating tank 1 from a coating material return pipeline 8, bubbles 9 are generated therein, causing a lot of the bubbles 9 to be present on the surface of the liquid in the circulating tank 1. Then, when the motor 22 is driven to rotate the plural linear bodies 14 while they are brought into contact with the bubbles 9, the bubbles 9 are broken to undergo defoaming. Since the coating material 2 that has become liquid goes along the linear bodies 24 and rapidly falls to the surface of the liquid and does not form bubbles again, defoaming effect can be increased.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
