Protection against meteorite impact, involving trapping fast meteorites in water baths before they can damage spacecraft

The protection against meteorite impact is afforded by water in a tank divided into cells (1) mounted on the outer wall (2) of the spacecraft. The deeper the water bath, the greater the protection it provides. The water tank should be made of the sort of heat-resistant plastic currently used on the tips of rockets. Provision must be made for the expansion of the water due to heat or cold. For large meteors likely to strike the Earth, laser beams can be used to melt them down. The same beams can also be used against space garbage.
