PURPOSE:To provide a new chelating agent useful for the image diagnoses to be used in clinical diagnoses. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula I [m is 1-3; R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkyl; R3 to R6 are each OH, of formula V or VI (A and B are each =C aliphatic residue or alkyl; X and Y are each O or NH; n is 0-6; when n is O, Y is absent); where, of R3 to R6, there are 2 to 3 OH groups; in case there are two OH groups, excepting that R3 and R5 are each OH and R4 and R6 are each OH@{9147/2 8} or a salt thereof, e.g. N-[2-(13--distearoyloxy) propoxycarbonylmethyl]diethylenetriamine-N,N',N'',N'''-tetraacetic acid. The compound of the formula I can be synthesized along the routes given by the reaction formulas. This compound is capable of forming complex compounds having such characteristics as to give excellent contrast-enhancing ability, tissue selectivity, stability and sustainability in the blood, but give no high osmotic pressure, thus being useful esp. as a MRI diagnostic agent.
