PURPOSE: To measure the noise characteristics of the optical amplifier, e.g. a natural emitted light coefficient even when the noise of an signal light source and the noise of an optical light source are nearly same, for example, as the optical power amplifier and to easily measure the noise characteristics, e.g. the natural emitted light coefficient even when the power of input signal light is small. ;CONSTITUTION: This system is equipped with a modulating means 3 which imposes pulse modulation on the input light from the signal light source 1 at a modulating speed within the range wherein the gain of the optical amplifier 2 and the natural emitted light coefficient are determined by the mean power of modulated signal light and a light shield means 4 which cuts off the amplification output of the optical amplifier 2 when the modulated signal light is 'H'; and the output when the input signal light is 'L' is photodetected to measure noise electric power.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
