The adjustment of the gear ratio of an epicyclic gear speed reducer (4) as a function of the development of the resisting torque on the output shaft (8) and the rotational speed of the input shaft (2) is obtained by rotation of the crown wheel (5). This rotation occurs due to the centrifugal force applied on a set of rollers (14) rolling on an elliptical track (17). A freewheel (19) opposes the resisting torque on the output shaft and enables the progressive decrease of the gear ratio.
