The present invention relates to a novel polypeptide of SEQ ID NO: 1 below having the properties of lung activity. These polypeptides can be prepared in large quantities in very pure form and are as effective as natural waste surfactants. This polypeptide can also be used in the production of pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of dyspnea in premature infants and adults. In Table 1 below, A is H or Phe, B is Phe or Trp, and C is Ile, Leu or Ser.
