PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter which is provided with a semiconductor MZ (Mach-Zehnder) optical modulator that has a high extinction ratio, and modulates light in a configuration with less chirps.;SOLUTION: The optical transmitter includes a semiconductor MZ optical modulator 10, in which one of arms 111 is provided with a loss adjustment part 14 whose shape is defined so that a carrier loss of the arm 111 matches a carrier loss of an arm 112, when a voltage which has optical absorption coefficients larger than the other parts and whose output light strength becomes a minimum is applied to respective electrodes 15; and a drive circuit 18 for applying to the respective electrodes 15 of the semiconductor MZ optical modulator 10 a modulation voltage of equal amplitude, where plus and minus of a time change ratio are inverted at the same time of day.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
