The proposed method of obtaining limy (calcified) or pyritized fossils from consolidated limy rocks is based on different rate of dissolution of both macrocrystalline and microcrystalline calcite in 38 percent sulfuric acid and comprised the following steps: a) preparation of a sample for etching wherein the step includes drying the fossil and surrounding rock; b) immersing the dry sample into a container filled with sulfuric acid and covered by a lid; c) leaving the sample in the bath for a period of 1 minute up to 48 hours; d) taking the sample out of the bath and its rinsing with a stream of lukewarm water; e) immersing the sample into a neutralizing bath for a period of 1 to 12 hours; f) taken the sample out and drying it. There is also proposed a device for obtaining calcified fossils from limy rocks wherein the device consists of a container filled with a sulfuric acid, a drier or a known drying installation and a cleaning device.
