The method involves providing a specified condition describing target molding condition variable for molded component (3). An actual state describing the actual molding state variable for component is detected. A mapping function for mapping the target molding condition variable approximately to actual molding state variable, is determined. An actual edge line for directing the energy ray (5) is determined based on the target edge size and the mapping function. The energy ray is directed based on actual edge size. An independent claim is included for energy ray cutter.
