PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a live cell imaging technology without using fluorescence that is required in assessing quality of mammalian cells, research of carcinogenicity of compounds, especially research of carcinogenic substance in low dose or carrying capacity, assessing of compounds, screening of compounds, and quality control of cells and/or assessment or the like, and relating to biomarker, to respond these requirements.SOLUTION: There are provided methods for assessing conditions of cell populations comprising culturing mammalian cell populations, tracing individual cells in the cell population, and correlating the frequency and the conditions of cell populations, wherein the frequency is an indicator of the presence or absence of phenotypical and/or genotypical alterations in the cell populations.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
