PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an NMR chiral shift reagent, comprising an achiral acyclic compound, for identifying chiral substances in proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and a method of determining optical purity of chiral substances using the same.SOLUTION: An NMR chiral shift reagent comprises an achiral benzylamine. The achiral benzylamine binds with a protonated chiral substance to form a complex. This allows chiral information (optical purity or absolute configuration) of chiral substances to be transferred to the benzylamine and easily read by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
