The present invention relates to the use of LBP/BPI polypeptide to prevent and/or treat diseases caused by oomycetes. The present invention also relates to compositions containing LBP/BPI polypeptides to prevent and/or treat diseases caused by oomycetes. The present invention further relates to the preparation of transgenic plants and animals expressing the LBP/BPI polypeptide of the invention. The present invention finally relates to a method for producing the LBP/BPI polypeptide of the invention.
