To provide a silica-titania composite aerogel particle that exhibits a high photocatalytic function in the visible range and has excellent dispersibility.SOLUTION: A silica-titania composite aerogel particle includes a base particle with an element ratio of silicon Si and titanium Ti, Si/Ti, of more than 0 and 6 or less. To the surface of the base particle, a metal atom having a hydrocarbon group is bonded via an oxygen atom. The silica-titania composite aerogel particle has a BET specific surface area in the range of 200 m/g to 1,200 m/g, and has absorption at wavelengths of 450 nm and 750 nm in a visible absorption spectrum. An element ratio of carbon C and titanium Ti, C/Ti, on the surface of the silica-titania composite aerogel particle, is 2 or more and 5 or less. When the silica-titania composite aerogel particle is irradiated with ultraviolet rays at a wavelength of 352 nm and an irradiation intensity of 1.3 mW/cmfor 20 hours, a decrease of C/Ti on the surface of the silica-titania composite aerogel particle is 0.01 or more and 0.6 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
