The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating obesity or fatty liver containing an extract of Raphanus sativus as an active component. The composition activates AMPK (5′ adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase) to inhibit C/EBP-α, C/EBP-δ, and PPAR-γ transcription factors involved in differentiation of progenitor fat cells into adipocytes and reduce the expression of adipose-associated proteins, thereby having an effect for preventing or treating obesity. In addition, the composition is confirmed to have an effect of preventing or treating fatty liver by inhibiting lipid synthesis in hepatocytes.
