Eco-friendly methods of protecting flax against weeds.

This paper briefly discusses the following methods of protection of flax plantations from weeds developed at the Institute of Natural Fibres in Poznan, Poland: reduction of the rates of chemical herbicides by using adjuvants, especially those based on plant oils (such as Lenmix 800 EC, which contained flaxseed oil); reduction of herbicide rates by herbicide application at the optimum time; repeated application of herbicides at lower rates (split application); precise application based on the analysis of weed infestation in the field (map of weed distribution); and rotation of herbicides. Such a system allows for maintaining soil fertility, lowering environmental pollution level, and maintaining the pro-healthy properties of flax fibre.
