Horseracing tracks' turf is of great importance to the performance of horse and rider. The Kenilworth turf hosts some truly illustrious performers: superstars such as Horse Chestnut, London News, Pocket Power and Empress Club have graced the Kenilworth track over its long history. Notably, Kenilworth's greater environs is also regarded as valuable in terms of indigenous fynbos. In the centre of the city track, the Kenilworth Racecourse Conservation Area consists of 52ha of natural vegetation, which is regarded as the best example of Sand Fynbos in the Cape Peninsula.
