Equipment vibrations resulting from travelling motions are an old problem. The complex girders of high-xcapacity equipment have a large number of natural vibrations which, in addition, are nearly undamped. The pulsating, partly periodic, partly aperiodic excitation emanating from the travel gear leads to stochastic vibration conditions superimposing the static loads of the girders. The resulting component stress is dynamic contrary to the stress taken as the basis for dimensioning.
