Seminar of 'Medical Equipments for Common Consumers'

A seminar on 'Medical Equipment for Common Consumers' was organized jointly by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Delhi Surgical Dressings Manufacturing Association on Tuesday, 16 September 2003 at BIS Headquarters, New Delhi. The seminar was attended by a large gathering comprising manufacturers of medical equipment and surgical dressing; experts from various hospitals and nursing homes; consumer activists and common consumers. Shri U.N. Putatunda, Director & Head (MDD-III), BIS in his welcome address highlighted the objective of the seminar through awareness among all concerned sectors and desired inputs. It was viewed to improve upon standards in the relevant field and enhance implementation status and thereby percolating the real benefits to the consumer and the society at large. The Seminar was chaired by Shri S.K. Chaudhuri, Deputy Director General (Central Region), BIS. He felt that there was a need for preparation of standard for water purifier based on reverse osmosis process, the work for which had already been initiated in BIS. He emphasized the importance of BIS certified products as compared to non-certified products in the area of health safety and hoped that manufacturers of medial equipment will concentrate on further improvement in the light of the developments at international level especially with regard to safety, reliability, accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility and consistency of test results.
