State Level Committee Meeting for Standardization and Quality Certification, Chhattisgarh

Bhopal Branch Office of BIS organized the first meeting of the State Level Committee (SLC) for Standardization and Quality Certification, Chhattisgarh on 20 January 2003 at Hotel Babylon International, Raipur under the Chairmanship of Shri Pankaj Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Chhattisgarh, Raipur. Shri K.C. Trivedi, Director and Head, BIS, Bhopal Branch Office and Member Secretary of SLC, Chhattisgarh, welcomed the Chairman and other members of the Committee for the first meeting. Outlining the terms and reference of the Committee he informed the committee about the activities of BIS all over the country and in particular, Bhopal Branch Office, covering states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He elaborated on the Product Certification, Quality System, Environment Management System, Hallmarking of Gold, HACCP Certification of BIS and emphasized upon a unified effort and approach necessary for implementation of various Schemes of the Bureau and the State Government for Quality upgradation. He pointed out that the SLC was the highest policy making and implementing body for the State which should advise and guide BIS on the role it could play towards acceleration of the industrial pace of the State. He also informed about various Quality Control Orders of Government of India under the Essential Commodities Act, including electrical, general service lamps, wires, cables, appliances and accessories, Control Orders, for conservation of the energy and safety of consumers, and requested the State Government authorities for enforcing mandatory certification strictly in the State.
