INTERCROPPING IN CASHEW ORCHARD UNDER ORISSA CONDITION

The feasibility vis-a-vis profitability of intercropping in cashew plantation was explored under Bhubaneswar condition during 2001 and 2002. The results revealed that groundnut, cowpea, turmeric and pineapple could be successfully grown as intercropsin cashew orchards of 9-10 years old without affecting the yield of main crop. Net profit ranging from Rs 50,60/- (groundnut) to 30,150/- (turmeric) could be obtained. In view of low investment and better profitability as well as maintaining soil fertility, cowpea intercropping in cashew orchards recorded highest cost: benefit ratio (1:4.84)
