In India, cashew is often grown in wastelands, under poor soil condition unsuitable for cultivation, leading to low yield per tree. For cultivation of cashew in an organic manner, the normal packages of practices recommendations for agro managment practices are to be followed. However, the philosophy of organic farming prevents use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers for the plants. The soil fertility is to be improved and maintained through application of organic manures and raising of green manure crops. The field has to be kept free of undesirable vegetation. Intercrops such as tapioca, groundnut, banana, pulses and vegetables can be raised in the first three-four years.
