The Role of Databank Managers as Guardians of Public Interests Commentary on 'Strategies for Consulting with the Community: The cases of four large-scale databanks'' (Goclard et al.)

Beatrice Godard and her colleagues' have persuasively argued that community consulting should be an integral part of the establishment of genetic databanks. Such databanks are, in some cases, envisioned as a resource for researchers from various institutions who would apply for access to data and samples. It is generally assumed that the community represented by donors to the databank will benefit, directly or indirectly, from research projects using samples from the databank, at a minimum via publication of research findings that are based on databank information.
