The nature of gene interaction in the inheritance of sixteen yield and seven grain quality traits was studied deploying generation mean analysis following 6 parameter modelfor parents, F, F2, BCf and BC2 generations of three crosses of rice, during wet season. The additive gene effect was significantfor all the characters except florets panicle1, grain length, cooked kernel breadth and cooked kernel L/B ratio in IET 6441 x Dudheswar, grain yield plant1 in IET 8002 x Basmati 385 and cooked kernel length in IET 8002 x Sambamahsuri, while dominance effect was significant for all the characters except days to 50% flowering, panicle length, florets panicle1 and kernel length in IET 6441 x Dudheswar, except for total tillers plant1, productive tillers plant1, panicle length, florets panicle1, filled grains panicle1, floret fertility, 1000 seed weight, grain yield plant1, harvest index and cooked kernel L/B ratio in the cross IET8002 x Basmati 385 and except for panicle length, panicle weight, florets panicle'1, filled grains panicle1, floret fertility, grain weight panicle~(-1), grain yield plant1. Duplicate epistasis played an important role in the inheritance of all the yield and quality related traits except days to 50% flowering, panicle length, florets panicle'1 and kernel length in IET6441 x Dudheswar.
