2008 Australian Organic Geochemistry Conference. A national conference held in association with the International Humic Substances Society and the Natural Organic Matter Interest Group

Since its first formal gathering, convened by Basil Johns at Melbourne University in 1983, the Australian organic geochemical community has met regularly (and, since 1996, biennially) in a national conference. The 15th Australian Organic Geochemistry Conference was held in Adelaide on September 8–12, 2008. The venue for this meeting was the spectacular National Wine Centre of Australia overlooking the city’s Botanic Garden. The venue, its proximity to the world famous wine regions of South Australia (among them McLaren Vale and the Barossa and Clare Valleys), and the participation of members of the International Humic Substances Society and the Natural Organic Matter Interest Group, were all instrumental in helping the organising committee decide on the conference theme ‘‘Oil, Soil, Water and Wine”
