The optimal conditions are proposed for synthesizing HfN, VN, NbN, TaN, Fe_4N, Co_3N, and Ni_3N nitride powders in a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) regime with the use of solid nitrogen-containing compounds - sodium azide and halide (SHS-Az). The combustion temperatures in the first and second fronts and propagation rates of the chemical reactions were determined. The effect of nitrogen pressure in the reactor on the output combustion and synthesis parameters - the temperature and rate of chemical reaction - was established. The completeness of the reactions was estimated from the values of the acid-base balance, and the phase composition of the final synthesis products was determined.
