It is well known that mercury vapour (Hg~0) is nephrotoxic. To which extent such effects are reversible has not been fully elucidated.This study was carried out in 2002 among chloralkali workers who were no longer oc-cupationally exposed to Hg~0. They had worked or worked still, at a plant that had been converted from mercury cells to membrane technology in 1997/1998.
