Influence of P and S nutrition on yield and quality of forage sorghum.

The effect of three levels of P (0, 40 and 80 kg/ha) and S (0, 20 and 40 kg/ha) on the yield and quality of 2 cultivars of forage sorghum was studied during kharif of 2000 and 2001 in Gujarat, India. It was found that increasing P levels up to 80 kg/ha significantly increased forage green yield and produced higher dry matter yield compared to the control. Maximum dry matter yield was observed from S and P addition at the highest levels. Highest crude protein yield was observed upon application of 80 kg P2O5/ha and 20 kg S/ha. The interaction effect of P and S levels, in terms of green forage yield, dry matter yield, P and S uptake, produced maximum results upon addition of highest levels of both amendments. Maximum total return and additional return was obtained with the application of 80 kg P2O5/ha and 40 kg S/ha.
