Forage grasses viz; para grass (Brachiana mutica), guttan panic (Panicum maximum), blue panic (P. antidotale), Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana), sewan grass (Lasiurns sindicus) were grown at college farm with best available water (EC 2 dS/m) and saline water (EC 12 dS/m) from 1986-87 to 198 9-90. The results averaged over 4 years, showed that Rhodes grass gave the highest green forage yield (415 q/ha) followed by blue panic (331 q/ha). There was little effect of salinity of water on grass yields. The pHof soil under guttan panic was the lowest while pH and EC was the highest under Rhodes grass and blue panic. Addition of saline water increased the EC of soil from 0.44 to 0.62 while it d ecreasedthe pH of soil.
