RESPONSE OF SETARIA SPHACELATA TO NITROGEN AND SPACING UNDER RAINFED CONDITION

Performance of two cultivars (Nandi and Kazungula) of Setaria sphacelata was studied at three spacings (30 x 30 cm, 50 x 50 cm and 75 x 75 cm) and four levels of nitrogen (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg N/ha) during 1990-92 at Jorhat. Results revealed that both the cultivars were statistically at par in respect of growth and fodder production. The closer spacing of 30 x 30 grn proved advantageous from production point of view. Application of 120 kg N/ha gave maximum green and dry matter yields.
