Performance of Bhadawari buffaloes under semi-intensive system of management in Bundelkhand region.

This study was conducted to investigate the production performance and milk composition of Bhadawari buffaloes. 104 lactation records of Bhadawari buffaloes under semi-intensive feeding and management were utilized. The least square means for lactation milk yield (LMY) and lactation length (LL) were 1156.70 kg and 281.68 days, respectively. The year of calving significantly influenced the LMY and LL. The effect of season of calving and parity on LMY and LL was insignificant. The average fat in Bhadawari buffalo milk was 7.71%. The average of total solids (TS) and solids not fat (SNF) were 11.82 and 19.54%, respectively. The results showed that the lactation performance of Bhadawari buffaloes was comparable to other breeds except Murrah and Nili-ravi. The average milk fat, SNF and TS contents in Bhadawari buffaloes were comparatively higher than in most of the Indian buffalo breeds.
