Cashew nut trees were planted during the 2004 kharif season in Maharashtra, India, at a 7x7 m spacing. At the centre of 4 cashew nut plants, one plant of anato [annatto] (Bixa orellana), kokum (Garcinia indica), wavading (Embelia ribes), teak (Tectona grandis), shivan (Gmelina arorea [Gmelina arborea]), asana (Bridelia retusa) and aonla (Emblica officinalis [Phyllanthus emblica]) was planted. The maximum height of cashew nut was recorded in cashew nut + teak, followed by cashew nut + anato. The maximum canopy diameter was noted in cashew nut + kokum. There was a significant difference in height, collar diameter and canopy diameter among the tree species. The maximum height of tree species was recorded in Asana followed by Amla. The maximum collar and canopy diameter was noted in Anato. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in grass yield due to the different combinations. Cashew nut + anato was the most promising among the combinations.
