摘要

Studies on evaluation of eighteen multipurpose tree species (MPTs) were carried out form June1988 to June 1993 in rangeland at National Research Centre for Agroforestry, Jhansi (India) under rainfed condition in red gravelly soils. Out of 18 MPTs, 8 species i.e., Leucaena leucocephala, Albizia procera, Emblica officinalis, Dichrostachys cinerea,Albizia amara, Acacia nilotica Sub sp. cupressiformis Dalbergia sissoo and Terminate arjuna were found to be more suitable for introduction in rangelands to improve the productivity based on survival, growth, leaf production and fuelwood. The maximum dry leaf fodder, fuelwood and crude protein were obtained with L. leucocephala at both the heights of pruning. D. cinerea due to its regeneration capacity through root suckers would be suitable for development of ravine lands in addition to rangelands". On an average, the dry forage yield of natural vegetation and introduced grass and legume species ranged from 2.57 to 3.20 t/ha.
