摘要

The present study was carried out in Grass Hills ecosystem of Anaimalais, Western Ghats. The vegetation is being dominated by a perennial-grass, Chrysopogon zeylanicus (Nees Ex Steud.) Thw. Annual summer fire plays a significant role in designing thestructure of this ecosystem because it is an integral part in this system. During burning years, when the community was disturbed by fire, the uptake/release rate of studied nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were significanly increased. The uptake/release rate of nutrients in an ecosystem is a very useful measure to determine the level of community development.
