ECONOMIC EVALUATION OF PURE AND INTERCROPPED BLUE GUM (EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS - LABILL) IN SLOPING LANDS OF NILGIRI HILLS

Eilue gum (Eucalyptus globulus Labill) is grown in large tract of sloping lands in Nilgiri hills as a sole crop intercropping of grass-legume mixture, scented geranium and potato were tested fo'r their compatibility with blue gum on 16 percent slope at CSWCRTI, Research Centre, Ootacamund from 1980-1991 The economic viability of these four alternatives were worked out at 10. 15 and 20 per ce nt discount rates using BCR/NPW. PBP and IRR criterion. The analysis revealed that intercropping of scented geranium with blue gum is most profitable than other intercrop or sole. Hence, intercropping of scented geranium with blue gum is recommended for higher production, profitability from and protection of si oping lands in Nilgiri hills.
