Quality assessment of Stylosanthes species.

Diverse accessions of Stylosanthes scabra, Stylosanthes seabrana, Stylosanthes hamata and Stylosanthes viscosa were evaluated for their chemical composition and IVDMD. All the accessions of Stylosanthes are rich in crude protein, varying from 14.31 (S. seabrana 110372) to 20.31% (S. hamata 110135). There were significant difference in the cell wall constituents, namely neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, hemicellulose and lignin. The IVDMD values were highest in S. hamata and S. viscosa than S. scabra and S. seabrana.
