Effect of multipurpose tree species and their spacings on chickpea under varoius rotations

Agrisilvicultural studies were conducted at the National Research Centre for Agroforestry, Jhansi (U.P) during 1988-89 on sandy loam soils under partial irrigated conditions to find out the effect of multipurpose trees planted at different spacings on the productivity of intercropped chickpea. Highest tree height, collar diameter and dbh were recorded with Eucalyptus,where as plant canopy was maximum in Albizia. Lowest parameters were reported in Madhuca. Chickpea gave maximum and minimum grain yields in lowest and highest tree density, respectively. Highest grain yield of chickpea was recorded from the interspaces of Madhuca followed by Hardwickia in most of the years. On an average, maximum grain yield of chickpea was recorded from the third rowas compared to first and fifth rows. Chickpea production gradually decreased with the aging of the MPT's. Among the two crop rotations, there was no significant differences for grain yield of chickpea.
