The effects of moisture stress on seed germination of Grewia oppositifolia provenances was studied by using Polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG) solutions at 5 different osmotic potentials (O.P.) under 25 deg C constant temperature. Decrease in water potential resulted into a marked reduction in germination percentage. Significant variations between the provenances were found and the O.P. level at 5.824 and 10.529 atmospheric level inhibited completely the germination in seed populations of all the provenances. On average, Thati, Chham and Tehri populations exhibited maximum germination, irrespective of O.P. levels. Irrespective of provenances, seeds stored either at room temperature (RI) or low temperature (LT) exhibited 31.2 and 27.1 percent germination, respectively, after 18 month's storage. There was average 67.5 percent germination in fresh harvested seeds. On average, seeds can be stored at RT for one year with 29 percent loss in seed viability. Among various provenances, Mayali population showed maximum germination (61.0 percent), followed by Syunsal, Augastyamuni, Dov, Srinagar, Syaide, Chilledi and Chham after 18 month's storage at RT.
