摘要

Exploitation of aquatic flora as a source of edible protein has received little attention (Boyd, 1968 and Vyas & Das, 1978). The problem of aquatic macrophyte infestation is global but is particularly severe in the tropics and subtropics because presence of high temperature favour year round growing season (Holm et. al., 1969). The annual World cost of attempts to control aquatic macrophytes is said to be nearly US dollar 2,000 million (Pirie, 1978). In view of problems associated with the control of aquatic forages and the world wide need for additional sources of food, research to evaluate the nutritional value of aquatic flora is of great importance.
