This study was conducted during 2003-04 in Mizoram, India, to evaluate the growth of Sorghum bicolor intercropped with Melia azadirachta [Azadirachta indica], and to determine its influence on soil fertility in the study area. M. azadirachta trees were planted in 2x2 m distances. Three different cultivars of Sorghum bicolor (CSV-15, RKV-400 and SPV-669) were planted in between M. azadirachta trees. After 120 days, the maximum height (192.26 cm) among the S. bicolor cultivars intercropped with M. azadirachta was recorded for CSV-15. Soil pH ranged from 4.4 (CSV-15) to 5.1 (RKV-400 and SPV-669). The organic carbon content (1.30%) of soil was highest in the treatment with CSV-15 and RKV-400. N and P content (0.25% and 35.20 kg/ha, respectively) in soil was highest in the CSV-15 treatment, while the concentration of K (148.92 kg/ha) was highest in the treatment with SPV-669..
