摘要

Eco-physiological studies are important for species selection and laboratory level inbreeding for drought or other stress conditions resistance (Carlson et. al., 1979; Turner, 1986). Many research findings have reported a relationship between the physiological parameters i e transpiration, relative humidity, stomataS conductance and ieaf temperature etc. and growth and productivity in a few temperate tree species (Stanley and Gutterman, 1990; Whitfield, 1990) Adequate research work has not been doneon arid and semi arid tree species with respect to physiological characteristics, which quantify clearly the ecological range of a species forming an integral part of the recommendation for its planting conditions Keeping this in view, the present studies were conducted to evaluate the physiological status of some multipurpose tree species of arid and semi arid zone, i e. Albizia lebbek, Acacia catechu and Melia azadirach under controlled conditions.
