A field experiment was conducted in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India, during 2003-04 to investigate the most appropriate fertility levels and cutting schedules for Sehima nervosum genotypes in order to achieve higher biomass and quality fodder in semiarid region. The treatments consisted of 18 combinations comprising three Sehima varieties (IGS-9901, IGS-9907 and IGS-9908), three fertility levels (control, 30 N+20 P and 60 N+40 P kg/ha) and two cutting intervals (30 and 60 days after sowing, DAS). Results showed that the performance of Sehima varieties was significantly affected by fertility levels and cutting interval. Growth characteristics like plant height and leaf stem ratio of Sehima varieties were not variable due to imposition of treatments. Among the three genotypes, IGS-9901 recorded significantly higher green fodder and dry matter yield. The magnitude of increase with IGS-9901 was 21.0 and 25.3% over IGS-9907 for green fodder and dry matter yield, respectively. Among the fertility levels, significantly higher green fodder and dry matter yield was recorded with 60 kg N+40 kg P< sub>2O< sub>5/ha. The cutting schedule of 30 days interval recorded significantly higher forage yield. With respect to crude protein yield, the entry IGS-9901 surpassed other entries (0.39 t/ha). The application of 60 kg N+40 kg P< sub>2O< sub>5/ha and cutting at 30 days interval were superior treatments for crude protein yield of Sehima.
