Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (IGFRI), Jhansi has developed an animal feed pelleting machine for making feed pellets from poultry droppings, fine textured cellulosic materials in combination with cake, wheat bran, subabool leaves, mineral mixture and salts. The size of the pellets varies from 8 mm to 38 mm in diameter and 20-60 mm in length depending upon the need of different animals. These pellets are air dried, bagged and stored for feeding during lean period. The machine is operated with 7.5 h.p. electric motor and assisted by one labour. The machine was tested for making feed pellets from different combination of feeding ingredients.The capacity of the machine ranged between 60-85 kg/h depending upon diameter of dies. Similarly, the cost of pelleting also varied from Rs. 1800/q for Rs. 21.00/q. Average density of unpelleted loose material and pellets was found to be 132 and 434 kg/m~3 respectively, thereby increasing the density heady by three times. Feed pellets of different ingredients were prepared at Central Research Institute on Goats, Mathura, U.P. and feeding trials were conducted on goats. Chemical composition of these pellets and digestibility coefficients were also studied.
