摘要

The first evidence of Ginkgo was recorded in the Iberian Peninsula from the Miocene of Cerdanya (Lerida, NE Spain). This occurrence assigned to of Ginkgo adiantoides (UNGER) HEER is also confirmed by cuticular structure of adaxial leaf side. Tsuga, Torreya, Buxus, Zelkova, Quercus, Acer Populus are also present in the fossil plant assemblage indicating a similar character of the Late Miocene - Early Pliocene floras distributed in Europe. The fossil leaf of Ginkgo is not only first for the Iberian Peninsula, but also the most western record of the genus in the European Neogene. Based on its macromorphological traits and cuticular structure, the fossil leaf does not differ from other occurrences of G. adiantoides (UNGER) HEER, and confirms the theory that only one species of Ginkgo existed in Europe during the Neogene.
