Earliest representatives of Lecythocaridae (Crustacea: Brachyura) from the Upper Jurassic of southern Germany

Prolecythocaris hauckei, a new genus and species of Lecythocaridae SCHWEITZER & FELDMANN, 2009a, previously known as a monotypic brachyuran family, is introduced. It comes from Upper Jurassic (early Kimmeridgian) biodetritic limestones of Franconia (Bavaria, Germany). Phyletic and ecological relationships within Lecythocaridae and with other primitive Jurassic crab families are briefly discussed.
