Wiring of metallized microtubules by electron beam-induced structuring

Molecular electronics emerge as a possibility tocontinue the miniaturization of electronic circuits down to thelower nanometer scale. One significant challenge is the electricalconnection of molecular devices by nanowires. We present herethe realization of a new approach for the wiring of nanostructuresby linking metallized microtubules (MTs) to prestructuredmicroelectrodes. MTs(tube-like protein structures) weremetallized and deposited on microstructured substrates. Electronbeam-induced deposition was used for structuring connectinggold lines as nanoelectrodes, which wire a single Mttomicroelectrodes created by photolithography. Initial electricalmeasurements confirmed the suitability of the set-up for linkingnanometer-scale structures to a measurement device. AmetallizedMT yielded a resistance below 50Ωover the length of 1μm
