Soak up the benefits: center-pivot irrigation users pursue higher yields by making better use of their equipment and the water they apply

There's no doubt that irrigation can boost corn yields. But in order to get the greatest benefit from supplemental water, irrigation needs to be done on a precisely scheduled basis in accordance with crop needs, soil types, prevailing weather conditions and other factors. That's the impetus behind an irrigation study underway in parts of Daviess and Henderson counties in Kentucky. The effort is aimed at helping several farmers in that area make more efficient use of center-pivot irrigation rigs andthe water they apply.
