Given the changing nature of today's supply chains, product development teams are likely to cross many boundaries. The "virtual" teams that result can include on-site and off-site employees, contractors, suppliers, business partners, and even customers. All need access to one another and to each other's data, no matter where, when, or how they work. Yet the enterprise systems often used to manage project data were not developed for a time in which data needed to cross firewalls or be routinely accessible to team members from outside the company. As a consequence, those outside team members - suppliers, partners, and customers - can lack up-to-date access to the project data they need to make informed decisions.
